FAQ

Questions people ask before reaching out.

How do I know whether I need therapy or coaching?

Broadly: therapy tends to look backward and inward, coaching tends to look forward and outward. In practice most people need some of both. The first conversation is partly about working this out together. You do not have to decide before you reach out.

Are you licensed and credentialed?

Yes. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from the University of New England and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California, license number 137253, and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Washington, license number 60780445. I've worked in this field for over 25 years.

Do you work with burnout in high performing professionals?

Yes. Much of my practice is thoughtful, growth-oriented people who've been running on empty for a long time without slowing down enough to notice. We look at what's underneath the exhaustion together.

What is existential therapy, and is it right for me?

Existential therapy makes room for the larger questions, meaning, mortality, purpose, freedom, that tend to surface during a hard season or a major transition. If you find yourself asking what any of this is for, that question is welcome here.

What is ketamine assisted psychotherapy?

Ketamine assisted psychotherapy pairs a legally prescribed, self-administered dose of ketamine with somatic and parts-work support before and after the session. The medication can soften the mind's usual defenses, which often makes it easier to reach feelings and patterns that are harder to access through conversation alone. I'm PRATI certified in this approach, and you bring your own prescribed medication. I don't prescribe or dispense it myself.

What happens in a first session?

Mostly listening. You describe what brought you here and what you hope changes; we ask questions and explain how we work. There is no obligation to continue, and it is entirely reasonable to meet a few practitioners before choosing one.

How long does the work usually take?

It depends on what you are bringing. Some focused coaching work resolves in six to twelve sessions. Deeper therapeutic work is often longer and open-ended. We review progress regularly so it never drifts without purpose.

Do you meet online or in person?

Both. Sessions are available in person and by secure video, and you can mix the two as your schedule requires. Video sessions are as effective as in-person work for most people.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between us, with the narrow legal exceptions every practitioner is bound by: a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or a court order. We will explain these clearly at the start.

What does it cost, and do you offer reduced fees?

Fees vary by service and session length, and are confirmed before you book so there are no surprises. A limited number of reduced-fee places are available; please ask when you get in touch.

What if I need to cancel?

Life happens. We ask for as much notice as you can give so the time can be offered to someone else; the specific cancellation terms are shared when you book.

When will retreats be available?

Retreats are in development. If you would like to hear about dates before they are announced publicly, send us a note and we will add you to the waitlist.

Still have a question?

Ask it directly. We would rather answer than have you wonder.
